Airport transfers and car service in Poulsbo

Poulsbo sits at the head of Liberty Bay in North Kitsap, the Norwegian-founded town known as Little Norway. It is roughly 60 miles and 85 to 105 minutes from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport by road, from $215 one way in a premium sedan. That is the longest drive of any city we serve, because the route runs the whole length of SR-3 south through Silverdale and Gorst before crossing the Tacoma Narrows Bridge.

Which is exactly why Poulsbo is different. Three ferry terminals sit within thirteen miles: the Bainbridge Island crossing at Winslow, about 13 miles southeast over the Agate Pass Bridge; the Kingston terminal about 10 miles northeast, with both a Washington State Ferries car crossing to Edmonds and a Kitsap Transit fast ferry direct to Pier 50 in downtown Seattle; and the Bremerton terminals about twenty miles south. For a midday flight, walking onto the Bainbridge boat and having a chauffeur meet you at Colman Dock is both cheaper and about as quick as driving the whole way round. For an early flight it is not, and we will tell you so. Pickups are door to door across Front Street, Liberty Bay, Lemolo, Vinland, Finn Hill, Big Valley, Scandia, Suquamish and Keyport. Call 253-333-0265.

Honest routing

Three terminals, and when each one wins

Everywhere else on the peninsula the answer to "ferry or drive" is settled before you ask. Poulsbo is the genuine coin toss, and it flips depending on the hour of your flight. Here is what we would actually do for each destination, including the two where you only need us for part of the trip.

Recommended routing from Poulsbo by destination, with what we would charge for our part of it. Ferry times, fares and schedules are current as published and change regularly.
Where you are goingWhat we would doWhyOur part, from
Sea-Tac, early flightDrive the whole way roundNothing to catch. The first sailings of the day are sparse, and a 7am curb time is set by the boat rather than by you$215
Sea-Tac, midday flightWinslow, walk on, car meets at Colman DockAbout as quick once the crossing is 35 minutes, and cheaper: $70 plus $110 against $215$70 plus $110
Downtown Seattle, weekdayKingston for the fast ferryForty minutes direct to Pier 50, passenger only, and a couple of dollars walking on. Ten miles northeast$65
Downtown Seattle, any dayWinslow for the Bainbridge boatThirty-five minutes and it sails consistently all day, where the fast ferry is weekday-weighted with six sailings each way$70
Edmonds, Everett or north SeattleKingston for the car ferryA 30-minute crossing that lands you north of the city entirely, rather than driving the whole way round it$65
Seattle cruise piersBainbridge, or drive if heavily loadedPier 66 is a short run from Colman Dock, but a week of luggage is not a walk-on trip$70 plus $95, or $275
Tacoma, JBLM, PuyallupDrive, no ferry involvedAll of it is south over the Narrows Bridge and the water is the wrong direction entirely$170

The Kingston fast ferry is passenger only, runs roughly six sailings each way on weekdays with limited Saturday service, and lands at Pier 50 rather than Colman Dock. Washington State Ferries carries vehicles from Kingston to Edmonds in about 30 minutes and from Bainbridge to Seattle in about 35. All of them change schedules and fares seasonally, so check Kitsap Transit and Washington State Ferries rather than relying on this page.

The one place the boat actually wins

Poulsbo is the furthest city on our board from Sea-Tac by road, and the closest to a ferry that goes somewhere useful. Those two facts together make the Bainbridge route genuinely competitive rather than romantic: thirteen miles to Winslow, a 35-minute crossing, then a chauffeur waiting at Colman Dock for the last half hour to the airport.

It comes apart on two things. Early sailings are thin, so a dawn flight has to go by road. And luggage is a foot-passenger problem: two cases each and golf clubs is a car deck and a long walk, not a crossing. Send us the flight number and the bag count and we will tell you which one your trip actually is.

Departure timing

What time you need to leave

These are the earliest pickup times on our whole board, because Poulsbo is the furthest out. Working back from a two-hour curb arrival for a domestic flight, with a buffer for SR-3, the Gorst junction and the Narrows. Add an hour for an international departure.

Recommended pickup times from a Poulsbo address for a domestic departure from Sea-Tac by road, with a note on whether the ferry route is worth considering at that hour.
Flight departsAt the curb byPickup by roadFerry route instead?
6:00 am4:00 am2:00 amNo, sailings do not start early enough
9:00 am7:00 am5:00 amTight, and set by the early boat rather than by you
Noon10:00 am8:00 amYes, and cheaper. This is the sweet spot
4:00 pm2:00 pm12:00 pmYes, sailings are frequent through the middle of the day
8:00 pm6:00 pm4:00 pmPossible, but the afternoon commute fills westbound boats

Road pickup times already carry a buffer, and dispatch checks SR-3 and the Gorst corridor on the morning. Congestion at Gorst is directional, worst northbound in the morning peak and southbound in the afternoon, so a morning departure runs against the queue and a late-afternoon one runs into it. Ferry timings shift with the published schedule, so we check the sailings for your specific date rather than working from a rule of thumb.

Coming home

Arrivals are the easier direction because you are not racing a boat. Your inbound is tracked from the moment it pushes back at the origin gate, so a delay or an early landing moves the pickup automatically. Airport arrivals include 30 minutes of complimentary wait from touchdown, and meet and greet at baggage claim with a name board is a $50 add-on.

Coming home we can drive you the whole way, or drop you at Colman Dock for the next Bainbridge sailing with a second vehicle meeting you at Winslow. That is the cheapest way home with a car at both ends and it is worth asking about.

Early pickups

A 6am departure out of Sea-Tac means a two in the morning pickup from Poulsbo. That is a normal booking here rather than a favour, and it is the reason dispatch is staffed overnight and vehicles stage locally rather than starting the night in Gig Harbor.

Book the night before at the latest. You will have the vehicle, the chauffeur's name and a direct mobile number by text and email before you go to bed, which matters more at that hour than at any other.

Liberty Bay from the Poulsbo waterfront

Furthest by road, closest to the water

Sixty miles from the airport and thirteen from a boat that goes there. Poulsbo is the only place we serve where those two numbers argue with each other.

Rates and distances

Where we go from Poulsbo

Transfers are quoted point to point rather than by the hour, so a twenty-minute run to a ferry terminal is not billed against a two-hour minimum. Distances are measured from downtown Poulsbo and vary by your exact address.

Distance, typical drive time and starting one-way fare from downtown Poulsbo in a premium sedan for one or two passengers. Drive times are typical rather than guaranteed.

Fares are one way for one or two passengers and include fuel, taxes, tolls and the Narrows Bridge crossing where the route uses it. A luxury SUV adds roughly $35 and a ten-passenger Sprinter van roughly $75. Casino trips, tasting tours and nights out are booked hourly rather than point to point, because the chauffeur waits on site. Pickups before 5am and peak travel dates may carry a surcharge, shown before you confirm. See the full fleet and rates.

Across North Kitsap

Pickups anywhere in Poulsbo

Door to door across the town and the wider North Kitsap area. Downtown is compact and walkable, and everything beyond it spreads into wooded valley roads and waterfront lanes, so a Front Street pickup and a Big Valley pickup are quite different jobs.

Downtown and Liberty Bay

Beyond the airport

Other North Kitsap bookings

Poulsbo has an unusual concentration of breweries for a town of twelve thousand, a casino resort seven miles away and a downtown people actually come to. That shapes the mix here.

The Poulsbo taproom run

Sound Brewery, Valhöll, Slippery Pig and Rainy Daze are all within a few minutes of each other, which makes this the shortest tasting tour we run and the cheapest per head. Hourly, chauffeur waits, 21 and over. Tasting trips.

Suquamish Clearwater

Seven miles southeast and the closest casino resort to any city we serve. Booked hourly so the vehicle parks on site and waits, which beats standing outside at midnight in North Kitsap. Casino runs.

Weddings and guest shuttles

Kiana Lodge, the Port Gamble venues and the Bainbridge wineries, with guests usually arriving by ferry and staying somewhere else. Shuttles between accommodation and venue solve most of it. Wedding transport.

Bangor and commuter runs

Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor is seven miles away, and a good number of North Kitsap residents commute to Seattle by boat. Recurring runs to the ferry or the gate go on a company account. Corporate service.

What North Kitsap clients say

★★★★★

Two in the morning from Finn Hill for a six o'clock flight and the car was there before I was. Nobody else out here will quote that, let alone turn up early for it.

They worked out that for a midday flight it was cheaper to run us to Winslow, walk on, and have a second car meet us at Colman Dock. Saved us money and it was no slower. I would never have thought of it.

Booked the van for a birthday round the four Poulsbo breweries. Driver waited at every stop and got everyone home to their own door. Best value night out we have had.

Poulsbo transfer questions

How far is Poulsbo from Sea-Tac Airport

About 60 miles and 85 to 105 minutes by road, which is the longest drive of any city we serve. The route runs the full length of SR-3 south through Silverdale and the SR-16 junction at Gorst, then over the Tacoma Narrows Bridge and up I-5. The alternative is a ferry: Winslow on Bainbridge Island is 13 miles southeast and the crossing to Seattle is about 35 minutes.

How much is a car from Poulsbo to Sea-Tac

From $215 one way in a premium sedan for one or two passengers by road, quoted point to point rather than against an hourly minimum. The ferry combination is usually cheaper: $70 to run you to Winslow, then $110 for a chauffeur to collect you at Colman Dock and drive to the airport, so $180 in total. A luxury SUV adds roughly $35 and a ten-passenger Sprinter van roughly $75 to either.

Is the ferry quicker than driving to the airport from Poulsbo

For a midday or afternoon flight, about the same and cheaper: 20 minutes to Winslow, a 35-minute crossing, then half an hour from Colman Dock to Sea-Tac. For an early flight, no. The first sailings of the day are sparse, so a dawn departure would be dictated by the boat rather than by your flight, and driving round is the safer choice. Send us the flight number and the bag count and we will tell you which your trip is.

Which ferry should I use from Poulsbo

Depends where you are going. Bainbridge at Winslow, 13 miles southeast, for Sea-Tac, the cruise piers and downtown Seattle at any hour, because it sails consistently all day. Kingston fast ferry, 10 miles northeast, for downtown Seattle on a weekday: about 40 minutes direct to Pier 50, passenger only, and a couple of dollars walking on. Kingston car ferry to Edmonds for anywhere north of Seattle, because it lands you past the city entirely.

What time should I be picked up for a morning flight

For a 9am domestic departure from a Poulsbo address, 5:00 am by road, working back from a 7am curb arrival with a buffer for SR-3, Gorst and the Narrows. A 6am flight means a 2:00 am pickup, which is the earliest routine booking on our board and perfectly normal here. Add an hour for an international departure.

How bad is Gorst on the way south

It is the middle of your journey and it is directional. WSDOT records the northbound approach as the problem in the morning peak and the southbound in the afternoon. An airport run from Poulsbo goes southbound, so a morning departure runs against the queue and a late-afternoon one runs into it. Pickup times already account for this, and dispatch checks the corridor on the morning.

Do you track flights on arrivals

Yes, from the moment your inbound pushes back at the origin gate, so a delay or an early landing moves the pickup automatically and nobody sits on a meter. Airport arrivals include 30 minutes of complimentary wait from touchdown, and meet and greet at baggage claim with a name board is a $50 add-on. Coming home we can also drop you at Colman Dock with a second vehicle meeting the sailing at Winslow.

Which parts of Poulsbo and North Kitsap do you serve

All of it, door to door: Front Street and the Liberty Bay waterfront, Lemolo, Vinland, Finn Hill, Big Valley and Scandia, and out to Suquamish, Keyport, Indianola, Kingston, Port Gamble and Hansville. Silverdale, Bremerton, Bainbridge Island and Port Orchard are regular coverage too.

Can you do a tour of the Poulsbo breweries

Yes, and it is the shortest and cheapest tasting tour we run. Sound Brewery, Valhöll, Slippery Pig and Rainy Daze are all within a few minutes of each other, so a four-stop afternoon needs very little driving between stops. Booked hourly rather than point to point, because the chauffeur parks and waits at each one. Every passenger must be 21 or over. See tasting and casino trips.

How far is Suquamish Clearwater Casino Resort

About seven miles southeast, twelve to eighteen minutes, which makes it the closest casino resort to any city we serve. Casino trips are booked hourly rather than point to point, because the vehicle parks on site and waits for the whole visit, and the chauffeur will come and find you at an agreed departure time. From $60 as a straight transfer, or hourly for a full evening.

Can you pick up from gravel and waterfront lanes

Yes, and it is a good part of the work out through Big Valley, Indianola and Hansville. Much of North Kitsap is unlit two-lane road and long private drive with no number visible from the road, so for any address we have not run before the chauffeur checks the approach in daylight rather than at two in the morning. This matters most for a Sprinter or a stretch vehicle, where the question is whether there is somewhere to turn round.

How far in advance should I book

Forty-eight hours is usually enough for a sedan or SUV transfer, and longer for a Sprinter, a group booking or a holiday weekend. Poulsbo is the furthest point on our board, so a road transfer out here commits a vehicle for a good part of the day and is worth confirming earlier than a Gig Harbor or Tacoma booking. Same-day is often possible, so call 253-333-0265 even at short notice.

Book your Poulsbo transfer

Send the flight number, your address and the bag count. We will price both the road route and the ferry combination and tell you which one your trip actually calls for. Dispatch answers 24 hours a day.
